Savant is best known for its app: one polished screen for lighting, climate, music, video and cameras, designed so a guest can pick it up without a lesson. It's popular in luxury homes and on yachts. Control4
Control4 works with a very wide range of devices and has a large network of installers, which gives you more choice in hardware and in budget. Control4 ranks its dealers in tiers, such as Platinum and Diamond, so it's worth asking where yours sits.
Crestron
Crestron systems are built to commercial grade and programmed to order, which suits very large estates, unusual wish lists and homes with many buildings. The trade-off is that more depends on the programmer, so references matter even more.
Lutron
Lutron specializes in lighting control and motorized shades. It works alongside all three systems above, and in many high-end homes Lutron handles light and shade while Savant, Control4 or Crestron runs everything else.
What matters more than the brand
- The license. Low-voltage and electrical work requires a state license. Check it on the state's lookup before you sign.
